Yavapai County, Arizona, encompasses a large and geographically diverse region in the central part of the state, with court activity centered primarily in Prescott. The county’s court system — anchored by the Superior Court and supported by five Justice Court precincts — generates thousands of records each year spanning civil, criminal, family, and probate proceedings. These records include court orders, judgments, transcripts, pleadings, minute entries, and judgment summaries, all maintained by the Clerk of the Superior Court of Yavapai County and the respective Justice Court clerks.

The Arizona Judicial Branch also operates electronic tools for searching and accessing case records remotely, and the clerk’s offices in Yavapai County handle all in-person and mail-based requests.

How to Look Up a Court Case in Yavapai County?

Are Court Records Public in Yavapai County?

Court records in Yavapai County are generally accessible to the public under the Arizona Public Records Law, A.R.S. Title 39, which establishes a broad right of public access to government-held records, including those generated by courts. The Clerk of the Superior Court provides access to records in compliance with applicable state statutes and Arizona Court Rules.

Categories of records excluded from public access include:

  • Juvenile records and all proceedings involving minors
  • Adoption records
  • Records sealed by court order
  • Documents containing information identifying witnesses or crime victims in sexual offense cases
  • Warrant documents not yet executed
  • Records determined confidential under Arizona Court Rules
  • Materials subject to ongoing investigation restrictions

When a record contains both public and restricted information, the clerk may provide a redacted version rather than withhold the document entirely. Documents determined by Arizona Court Rules to be confidential, or sealed by order of the court, cannot be accessed without a separate court order authorizing release. The Arizona Court Case Finder at AZCourtHelp.org can help requesters identify the correct court and process for specific record types. For historical Superior Court records predating 1992, inquiries should be directed specifically to the Yavapai County Courthouse location on S. Cortez Street.
